Obituary Local Paper

John V. Batt, Jr.John V. Batt, Jr., 71, of Ridley Township, passed away peacefully at home on June 26, 2025.

John was born in Upland, Pennsylvania, and was predeceased by his parents, John and Mary Batt. He was a devoted husband, father and friend whose kindness, humor, and strength touched everyone who knew him.

A hardworking man who loved being outside as much as he did working with his hands. John spent his career as a Union Electrician with I.B.E.W. Local 654 and previously worked on the river at Sun Ship.

Beyond his profession, John found joy outdoors. He spent countless hours at Delaware County Field and Stream, proudly serving as a Range Officer at the Table Trap Field, where he shared his knowledge and stories with fellow sportsmen. As a Hunter Education Instructor for the Pennsylvania Game Commission, he passed down not just the skills of the hunt, but also the deep respect for nature that udiged his life.

He also loved traveling back roads to new places, searching for hidden treasures at auctions. He took special joy in birdwatching during the winter and getting lost in countless home improvement projects.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Batt; his son, John Batt, III; his daughter Laura Taylor and her husband Rob; and his beloved German Shorthair Pointer, Brandi.

Florence Irene RutledgeMemorial for Florence Irene Rutledge Born in Cleveland, OH on July 7, 1910. Departed on Sep 20, 2007 and resided in Mineral Ridge, OH. Born of Polish immigrants in Cleveland on July 7, 1910, she lived through WW I, the 1918 influenza epidemic, the Great Depression and WW II. She married, raised four children, worked as a secretary and transcriber, and did charitable works. She had to give up her dream to become a nurse due to serious hearling loss. She designed jewelry, made pottery, drawings, painting and needlework. Her deep religious beliefs sustained her through many crisis. A few years after the death of her husband, she was critically injured in an automobile accident that led to the loss of a leg and her independence. She always loved to read, and was a prolific writer. She stressed the value of education and spent many hours tutoring her children. Her memory may have faded as she approached her nineties, but she was always a formidable card player often besting her children at gin rummy and double solitaire. She is survived by four children, seven grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren. She was a strong woman who inspired us all. We miss her, but her spirit lives on. There will be private services at a later date. Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Thomas H. EarleThomas Hugh Earle “Tom” was born on December 10, 1959 in Galveston, TX to the proud parents of Dr. Kenneth Martin Earle (deceased) and Mary “Beau” Earle (deceased). He had two older sisters Mary (Robert) Ax (deceased) and Dr. Katherine (David) Gill (deceased).

Tom moved to Silver Springs, Maryland when his father pursued a job as the Chief of Neuropathology at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington D.C. It is here where he spent most of his youth when he was not traveling the world with his family. Tom attended Massanutten Military Academy in Woodstock, Virginia. He graduated in 1978 as Valedictorian, Battalion Commander and captain of the swim team. The butterfly stroke was his event!

Tom joined the Air Force in 1982 and was stationed at Hurlbert Field, FL. He specialized in computer ops. This is where Tom met his wife of 34 years, Kimme Babin. Tom left the Air Force after a few years to help care for his ailing mother. While at home, he completed his degree at the University of Southwestern Louisiana. He graduated in 1988 with a B.S. in Business with a minor in Computer Science.

Tom married Kimme Babin on August 18, 1984. Tom and Kimme enjoyed traveling the country by road and exploring new locales/restaurants. They loved celebrating Mardi Gras and spending time with family and friends. Tom and Kimme moved to Ohio in 1989. Tom worked as a computer programmer for several different industries and in 2004 started his own computer consulting business called KATHE.

Tom welcomed his first child Megan Elizabeth on July 6, 1987 whom he lovingly referred to as “sweet pea.” Tom welcomed his son Bryan Christopher on Sept. 27, 1988. Tom was overjoyed to finally be able to pass on his family name. Tom instilled in his children the love of board games, computers/technology and cooking. He taught them to slow down and enjoy all that life has to offer. Tom was extremely proud of his children and everything they have accomplished. Additionally, he was thrilled to welcome Matthew Thomas and Lauren Thomay to the family through the marriage of his children. Tom was a proud grandfather to Simon Maxwell Thomas who was born on May 22, 2017 and he was extremely excited for his upcoming granddaughter Margo Amelia Thomas in Oct. 2018.

Tom was diagnosed with lung cancer in October of 2011. At this time, Tom was given approximately one year to live. Although saddened by this news, Tom refused to give up. Tom fought through a lung removal, aggressive chemotherapy and numerous other complications. Tom fought valiantly and overcame countless obstacles. Throughout all of his struggles, he continued to find enjoyment in the little things of life. He loved old movies and TV shows, he cheered for the Indians and the Browns, watched golf, tinkered with gadgets and concocted new recipes on a regular basis. Tom was an extremely sociable person who loved meeting new people, going to parties and telling cheesy jokes. Tom died quickly in his home on August 27, 2018.

Tom will lovingly be remembered by those who survived him: his wife, Kimme, his children, Megan and Bryan, his son-in-law Matt, daughter in-law Lauren, grandson Simon, beloved dog Macy, sister Mary, brother/sister in laws, Bob Ax, David Gill, Wes and Debbie Babin, Scott and Debbie Babin, Dana and Carrie Babin, Mitch and Lynn Babin, and Holli and Guy Morgan.
